Building your new home can be very exciting & give you loads of experience. This
involves a lot of planning; you could start off own preparation even before the
site plans etc are chosen:
Planning your Budget: Affordability is a key factor; you need to know your
limits, your capacity to make payments to your lender, builder etc. Do your
research and determine the loans available in the market, do your budgeting
before hand.
Choose your builder/contractors: compare different builder/contractors to what
they have to offer, talk to people who have had their homes build with them, try
to go for a reputable builder/contractors as you are going to have a piece of
mind with the end result & quality of your home.
Study the plan & contract signed with your builder/contractor. Use qualified
professional or lawyers to negotiate with your builder/contractor as this can be
usually tricky and tough to understand.
Getting the cost estimates: try getting the estimates from the different sub
contractors and compare them, shopping around will always save you a lot of
money.
Permits & restrictions: be aware about the regulations etc set by your local
council, knowing the restrictions etc before having an approved plan with your
builder can save you a lot of time.
